Dr. Justin Casares was born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley on his family’s racehorse ranch. He developed his passion for veterinary medicine showing livestock across the state of Texas and through working at his hometown veterinary clinic, Mission Veterinary Hospital, during high school and college.
After high school, Dr. Casares moved to Aggieland, where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science in 2015 and his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2018. During undergrad, Dr. Casares developed a strong passion for livestock show medicine and herd health medicine through his involvement with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. During veterinary school, he worked alongside experts in swine medicine at the Swine Medicine Education Center at Iowa State University, and experts in livestock show and rodeo medicine at the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo, as well as veterinarians on large-scale dairy and beef cattle operations across Oklahoma and Texas.
He is now part of the Chisholm Trail Veterinary Clinic team, where he practices large- and small-animal medicine and surgery.
During his free time, Dr. Casares enjoys traveling to new places around the world, hunting and fishing, spending time with his wife, Dr. Lauren Thompson, and their 4 dogs, and, of course, cheering on his beloved Aggies during football season. Dr. Casares is excited to be a part of the Chisholm Trail Veterinary Team and getting more involved in the communities of Luling and Lockhart.
